Return to Success Stories Home

  Darcella

Darcella grew up in the foster system.  She was bounced around from house to house until she turned 18, when she was left to fend for herself.  She became a mother herself soon after, and stayed at a shelter for pregnant teens until her son became too old for their assistance.  Once more she found herself alone.  Lost, abandoned, and at the end of her rope, Darcella found Colorado Homeless Families (CHF), where her life started to turn around.

While at CHF, Darcella received the encouragement and support she desperately wanted and needed through case management and counseling.  She went back to school and earned a degree in social work, because she wanted to prove that a child from the system could succeed.  After experiencing many disappointments and much heartache, she wanted to become a success story.  She not only wanted this for herself and her family, but also for other children and parents involved in foster care, so they too could understand it is possible to achieve their dreams.  Shortly after graduating, Darcella was hired by the State of Colorado as a Social Worker.

Darcella recently graduated from CHF and lives on her own in a nice apartment with her son.
